Moving Into Stillness

Service Description

This practice is born out of adoration for the book "The Art of Stillness" by Pico Iyer, specifically this quote: "In an age of speed, I began to think, nothing could be more invigorating than going slow. In an age of distraction, nothing can feel more luxurious than paying attention. And in an age of constant movement, nothing is more urgent than sitting still.” The practice begins with gentle movement before progressing into a slow flow and finally softening into the sweet stillness of Restorative Yoga. The active practice will include a range of standing and seated postures, including gentle twists. The restorative portion will require the use of props, where we will support the body in a position of comfort and ease to facilitate deep relaxation. The overarching theme is finding comfort in your practice, both on and off the mat. In a world of constant acceleration, we often don't leave time to tend to our individual needs, which are more often than not the same: doing less. We squeeze more things into any empty spaces in our lives because of the pressure to keep going. The caveat to all this doing is that it actually makes us less efficient, and resentful which impacts our health and relationships. You're exhausted, I'm exhausted, we're all exhausted. Practice with me and learn the importance of doing less to live more. We will move, we will groove, and then we will just be. Be in our bodies, in our breath, and in the moment. You will learn how to calm your thoughts and body and be okay with the quiet stillness that we can find in every moment. This practice invites you to embrace stillness and welcome every aspect of yourself. You can do more, but can you do less?
